Google Ditching Microsoft OS

Web is ablaze with the news of Google ditching Microsoft OS in favor of Mac OS / Linux. This seems to be a bold step, not sure how many others will follow Google in this step. I wonder how Google plans to test the windows OS based apps like Google Earth, Desktop Search etc. without the Windows OS?
